‘The charming community of Wootton Bridge’Set on the north coast of the Isle of Wight midway between Ryde and Newport, Wootton Bridge lies amidst beautiful countryside that bears both Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Sit of Special Scientific Interest designations. The village itself is a charming community with a mixture of modern and Victorian buildings, including the 11th century Parish Church of St Edmunds and The Sloop Inn in Mill Square. Close by is the Isle of Wight Steam Railway that connects Wootton to Havenstreet and the nearby Butterfly and Fountain World. The marine landscape is the village’s most arresting feature; Wootton Creek is popular with yachtsmen and boaters while the millpond is part of a Special Area of Conservation and home to bats and wildfowl, including herons, egrets and kingfishers. Walkers and ramblers visit Wootton Bridge to cover the network of walks in and around the village, to explore attractions such as Quarr Abbey, Osborne House and St Mildred’s Church and to picnic at Firestone Copse with views across the millpond.
