James Turner
Development Manager

From humble beginnings as a travel agent and intrepid worldwide traveller, James has spent the last six years developing Hidden Britain in the South East. He has worked extensively with rural communities and is an expert in community development. James leads the Hidden Britain team and works closely with communities and volunteers, planning and structuring projects, sourcing funding, conducting workshops, presenting conferences and everything else it takes to see a local project come to fruition.

James holds a degree in Physical Geography from the University of Sussex, is a member of the Tourism Society, is incredibly creative and remains fascinated by the landscape, history and undiscovered corners of South East England.

Claudia Townsend
Senior Development Officer

Claudia completed an MSc in Tourism, Conservation and Sustainable Development in 2001 and since has gained valuable experience in sustainable tourism whilst working with communities, businesses and NGOs in the UK. She has also worked in developing world countries, including Madagascar and Rwanda on projects that identify tourism potential and promote understanding of and good practice in responsible tourism.

Claudia enjoys working with volunteers and businesses in our communities and helping them benefit from a well-managed visitor economy. She enjoys exploring and learning about beautiful areas of the country and meeting and working with inspirational people who share her interest in sustainable tourism.

Kevin Baughen
Marketing and Communications Officer

Our marketing and communications guru, Kevin is serious about generating and implementing ideas that genuinely work for our communities. Over the last 16 years, Kevin has built on his academic foundations in business and marketing and has led, managed and delivered every aspect of the marketing mix for both commercial and not-for-profit sectors.  He has worked with some of the UK’s largest corporates, major charities and small community groups to get the right messages across to the right audiences.

Kevin holds an Executive MBA, is a regular speaker at charity events and writes several blogs for not-for-profit organisations, including UK Fundraising and NCVO Foresight.
